Mesmerizing Places of Daman and Diu

 Daman and Diu is an Indian Union territory located on the western edge of the country. It was a Portugal colony and hence is enriched with European architecture. It is known for archaic colonial forts, churches, beaches, etc. Both the cities of Daman and Diu are separated by the Arabian Sea but have similar characteristics. It is a pleasant place to visit for a honeymoon or a family trip.

  1. Mirasol Lake Garden

It is 1.5 kilometers from Devika Beach in Daman, in Kadaiya Village, Nani Daman. It is a popular boating site and an excellent place to visit for families and honeymoon trips. The park has many other fun activities like toy train etc.

  1. Nagoa Beach

It is a 20-25 minute bike ride from Diu and is a popular beach both among locals and tourists. The beach is known for its shoe shape which stretches for about 2 kilometers. It is a unique and happening beach with magical tranquillity air. There are many activities that can be done on the beach like swimming, water sports, horseback riding, etc.

  1. Diu Fort

It is a historical Portugal fort built between 1535-1541 by Portugal East India Company. The fort is now converted to Diu jail and has a Lighthouse. it is located on a mini peninsula, that is it is covered by water on three sides and provided a potential advantage to Portugal during wars with the British. It also has canons on display which were used when the fort was in use by Portugal

  1. Somnath Mahadev Temple

It is located at Dabhel village, which is a 20-30 minutes car drive from Diu. It is a Mahadev temple and a popular attraction amongst Hindu pilgrims. The temple holds the ‘Gangaji Fair’ every year to celebrate the erection of the shiva idol back in the 19th century. It was built on the request of a monk.

 

  1. Nadia Caves

They are situated near Diu fort. These caves were used by Portugal to source materials during wars and the construction of the fort. It is a network of tunnels like the ones we see in movies and mines. The caves are beautiful and have an interesting pattern of sunshine inside.

 

  1. Church of St. Francis of Assisi

It lies close to the sea and is one of the oldest in Diu. It was built in the Friary of Franciscans in 1593. It is now a hospital nut that still holds its architecture intact.
